Our journey
From Alexandria to Hastings Street.
More than sixty years, three countries, one way of working. The sign has changed over the years. The promise behind it hasn't.
- 1959
Alexandria, Egypt
Mohamed Noor opens a small optical store in Alexandria. He runs it on two values, honesty and respect. Customers come back, then send their families and friends, and the shop grows on trust and word of mouth.
- 1968
Sudan
Noor opens its first optical shop in Sudan, with its own lens lab, so lenses are made and checked in-house. The family business also reaches Switzerland.
- 2006
Alexandria
A chain of Noor branches opens across Alexandria, and Mohamed Noor's sons carry the business forward.
- Now
Burnaby, Canada
The family brings Noor to Canada: an optical showroom and eye clinic at 200-4021 Hastings Street, serving Burnaby and Metro Vancouver with the same values it opened with in 1959.
Noor means light.
It's the Arabic word for light. For an optician, it's also the job: helping people see clearly, and look like themselves while they do.
